Square Enix Has Been Filing Trademarks Globally For Chocobo Grand Prix

Are we breeding too much into it?

There’s a decent chance we could soon see the return of Chocobo Racing, if recent trademark filings by Final Fantasy publisher Square Enix for ‘Chocobo Grand Prix’ and ‘Chocobo GP’ are any indication.

Though it’s been dormant as a franchise since Chocobo Racing and Choboco Stallion on the original PlayStation, as well as the cancelled Chocobo Racing 3D for the Nintendo 3DS, racing the big, colourful birds has long been a staple activity in Final Fantasy games (as recently as Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XV.

The trademark, which has now been filed in Japan, Australia, Europe, the US and Canada could point to a number of things – it could be a new, standalone racing title, or a mobile spin-off. It could also just be a game within an existing or upcoming game such as Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis or Final Fantasy XVI.

Hopefully some clarification for this comes soon enough, but until then it’s fun to speculate, isn’t it?
