One Helldivers 2 Gun Has Received A Secret Buff To Its Coolness Factor

Now is a good time to crank Big Iron by Marty Robbins

The most recent patch to Helldivers 2 brought with it a massive amount of changes to its armoury, tweaking and balancing a ton of guns to shake up what players were using. In most cases, these changes targeted things like ammo reserves – but one gun that had been there since the very start got a hotly requested change.

The P-4 Senator is a six-shot revolver in Helldivers 2 – an early unlock in the Steeled Veterans warbond, it was admittedly described as ‘a bit underwhelming’ by developers when asked about whether the premium warbonds guns could be described as pay-to-win. With a baffling reload style that saw players painstakingly putting all six bullets in one by one, the real appeal of the cold steel was simply the fact that it was a BIG IRON that looked awesome in use.

Players begged for a speed-loader to be applied to the game – a real life bullet holder that lets a person slam all six bullets into their respective chambers at once – and with this most recent patch, their prayers were answered. The gun can now be reloaded a great deal faster if you have fired all six bullets.

But that isn’t the biggest buff to the Senator. The stealth improvement that has players gaping in awe is the fact that you can now hold down your reload button to spin the weapon like an oldschool gunslinger:

In the clip above, YouTube user GameOverDeo does us all a favour by demonstrating the amazing gun tricks in action with the backing track of “Big Iron“, the banger country ballad performed by Marty Robbins that every player of Fallout: New Vegas would be keenly aware of. He also has a video showcasing the speedloader in action, for any who have never seen such a device at work.

This may well be the biggest buff I have ever seen to a gun in a game, ever. Helldivers 2 has a range of secret stats for each one of their weapons, and this makes me wonder if perhaps there is a need for some kind of ‘Awesomeness’ level for guns, because right now the gun tricks of the Senator has me looking at my usual spread of weapons and wishing I could look cooler when using them.

Maybe they can let me do a kickflip with my LAS-98 Laser Cannon? Or drop-kick empty EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank canisters?

A man can dream. But for now, spinny gun fun is the order of the day.

Have you used the Senator revolver before now? Are you rushing to use it now? Tell us all about it in the comments or on social media.
