The official PlayStation YouTube channel has dropped a banger hype trailer to celebrate how far Helldivers 2 has come – spotlighting the enemies, upgrades and the wide, terrifying universe that players have sought to tame for over a year now. It even lifts the amazing track “Boom” by P.O.D (released all the way back in my youthful year of 2001) to get the point across – stuff be blowing up, yo.
On any other day, it would simply be a piece of media with a clear message – “If you STILL aren’t playing Helldivers 2, look at what you are missing out on.”
…But then the end of the trailer happens. And we hear some signature, melancholic horns:
Hearing Halo 3: ODST music on an official PlayStation account is not something I had on my bingo card of life, but if any property was to leverage such a collaboration, it would be Helldivers 2.
Of course, people are having a completely normal reaction to such a thing:
Y'all, the drop pod in the video has ears. ARE WE GETTING CUSTOM ODST PODS?

The devs and community managers are even having some fun with the community within the official Helldivers discord, throwing out a pretty opaque clue about what is going on:
In case you are out of the loop, It’s VIRGIL’s alert sound (albeit in reverse, with a healthy amount of reverb thrown on top). If you are still out of the loop, VIRGIL is the superintendent AI for New Mombasa, the city Halo 3:ODST takes place in. Consider yourself sufficiently looped.
So ready yourselves, the Halo universe is coming to Helldivers 2 – in some capacity, and at some point. Makes sense, given the game is releasing on Xbox platforms reasonably soon.
