AFL 23 On Xbox Has Likely Been Delayed Even Further

The wait continues

The Xbox version of AFL 23 has likely been delayed even further from its hopeful late July/early August date based on conversations with sources at local retailers.

According to those sources, when the late July/early August date was floated by Big Ant, the internal date for retailers shifted to August 11 – two days from now. Now that date has been pushed out to October 31, and while that could simply be a placeholder, that date is a Tuesday, a common release day for video games in Australia (alongside Friday).

Now I’m not suggesting that AFL 23 has been delayed to October, this is pure speculation based on the information at hand. However, given that Big Ant has been radio silent on the Xbox release and no Xbox stock has been received by retailers as of yet (to my knowledge) – both EB and JB websites still say coming soon – it’s unlikely that AFL 23 on Xbox is going to launch anytime soon.

You’ve got to feel for Xbox owners who have been waiting patiently for the game while PS5 and PC players have had their hands on the game since May 4. Although given the game’s issues it could be a blessing in disguise.

Regardless of the game’s state, there are plenty of Xbox players who are still hanging out for the game. The biggest gut-punch has to be the lack of communication from Big Ant, as they’ve frequently kept Xbox owners in the dark. And let’s not even talk about Pro Team.

With only a few weeks left in the 2023 AFL season and with interest in the game declining, you’d have to wonder if releasing the Xbox version is even worth it. Unless Big Ant is holding off to launch an Ultimate Edition of sorts with Pro Team.

We’ve reached out to Big Ant Studios for any information on the Xbox release and will update the article if we receive a reply.
