FROMSOFTWARE’s upcoming mech-action sequel/reboot, Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon will allow players who purchase the PlayStation 4 version of the game to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 current-gen version for free. This consumer-friendly practice was common for many first-party PlayStation titles until very recently, with this year’s Horizon Forbidden West being the last game that Sony would offer the console version upgrade for free of charge.
While many third-party publishers still offer the service, it’s always a pleasant surprise to have it confirmed ahead of release, which is exactly what FROMSOFTWARE and Bandai Namco have done.
The news comes alongside the first previews for the game; we recently had the chance to watch a hands-off demo of the game and came away thoroughly impressed by its current direction and ambitions. “It’s been ten years since the Armored Core franchise reared its metallic head but in that hibernation, the machine has been learning, and every success and lesson FROMSOFTWARE have experienced in the decade looks to have been uploaded directly into Fires of Rubicon”.
