After many moons of people speculating that Blizzard was planning to wholesale port Overwatch to Mobile devices, the truth is a little more off centre.
Overwatch Rush is instead a whole new game built from the ground up for mobile and set in the Overwatch universe.
Details have been shared online explaining that Overwatch Rush is an entirely new game – not a port – being developed by a dedicated team at Blizzard, separate from Team 4 (who are the dedicated Overwatch team).
The gameplay trailer is unapologetically clear that this is very very early doors, right down to a typo within Reinhardt’s name (sacrilege) but you can see the bones pretty clearly on display. Based on the preview video present heroes include Lúcio, Mercy, Pharah, Reaper, Reinhardt, Soldier 76, and Tracer – but online screenshots also show a stunned Kiriko, so it isn’t a case of oldschoolers only.
Apart from the very different perspective and slower-paced gameplay, you may also notice that the team size has shrunk once more – pitting teams of 4 against each other. This is likely a very deliberate choice to keep readability on smaller screens, but it is endlessly funny that the team size in each Overwatch iteration shrinks by a member.
A blog post on the Blizzard Website details as much as can be shared at this time, but there is not a great deal more to discover beyond what I have shared here. The game is still a way off being playable, so if you are interested in giving it a crack I advise to keep your eyes open for a beta announcement, perhaps at BlizzCon 2026.
