Mention of an unannounced Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 has surfaced on a former developer’s LinkedIn profile, well before any formal announcements have been made.
According to the previous work history of former Lost Boys Interactive technical director Randel Reiss, work on both sequels has begun at Gearbox in some fashion. Spotted by the eagle-eyed folks over at VGC, the post stated that Reiss worked to “Plan and engineer development on Borderlands 4 UE4, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands UE4, Brothers in Arms UE4, WWE 2K23, Amazon’s New World, Elder Scrolls Online, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2 UE4, Zombie Sim UE4, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox X(S).”
This has obviously sparked a fair bit of online chatter, and has now been updated to look like this:
Smooth.
This is far from a concrete announcement and you should hold off on getting too excited until we hear it straight from Randy Pitchford’s oddly damp face, but these sequels seem like a when instead of an if. Furthermore, Lost Boys Interactive is a support studio that has worked alongside Gearbox to develop a great many games, so a former technical director would certainly be privy to info like this.
We enjoyed Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, saying in our review that it’s “More than a spin-off, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ additions to combat, entertaining story and brilliant voice work allow it to not only stand apart from Borderlands but surpass it in every way.” We gave it an 8.5.
