Randy Pitchford has taken to post on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the long radio silence on a Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 (also known as Four-derlands) and to be quite honest, the news is good.
Stepping off his throne (not sarcasm, it’s literally what happens in the video) the co-founder of Gearbox software confirms that not only will Borderlands 4 hit the Switch 2, but it will do so before the end of this year.
More specifically, October 3, 2025.

A flurry of comments followed, with many asking questions about what to expect from the version – to which Randy was quite blunt in answer them, including:
- There will be a download for the game, even for physical copies (“It’s a big game.’)
- There will be 4 player local ad hoc co-op with 4 players using 4 consoles
- It will run at ‘around’ 30fps
- It will make use of the joycon mouse mode
That last point is a cool one, given that the Nintendo Switch 2 is the first console to really blur that barrier for mouse-inputs on a console device. Sure, other could sort of do it – but it was not really a traditional (or accepted) practice.
Borderlands as a series has had a surprising relationship with portability, considering that Borderlands 2 found itself ported to the incredible PS Vita and then the original Switch – so seeing it on Switch 2, particularly with the immense potential of the Joy-Con mouse mode, is exciting.
Really it will come down to how well it runs, if only because the comment of “It’ll be mostly around 30 fps, with some dips in some intense moments heavy combats or if hosting a multiplayer game in handheld mode“ at least being somewhat alarming. I’ll be interested to see it in action.
Are you hungry for Borderlands 4 on-the-go? Would the SteamDeck be a better option? Let us know your thoughts in the comments, or on social media.
