Bringing Back Outback Gaming – Kickstarting TY The Tasmanian Tiger HD Onto The Switch

Going back in TY-me

After a tease from developer Krome Studios just a few days ago, early this morning a Kickstarter campaign launched for bringing a remastered TY the Tasmanian Tiger to the indie powerhouse, the Nintendo Switch. If you haven’t heard of this title it is the epitome of Australiana. Set in the Australian Outback and raised by Bilbies, you are TY the last Tasmanian Tiger, or so you thought. Your family is being held prisoner in the Dreaming (the spiritual plane) by a cassowary, Australia’s giant killer bird, known as Boss Cass. With boomerangs in hand you are tasks with finding the five talismans before the Boss does, to save your family and your bushland friends.

Originally released in 2002 on the Nintendo GameCube, PS2 and Xbox, Krome Studios wants to make the HD version finally portable with a bunch of added tweaks. Funds will be put towards 6-axis motion controls for throwing your ‘rangs and gliding, one of the best aspects of the game, an improved camera, a new ‘Hardcore’ mode and more! In just 7 hours the campaign’s initial goal is already over 50% funded. There are a bunch of cool rewards as well, like art books, TY’s signature shorts and more. The campaign also has some stretch goals if enough funding is reached. Most are a mystery but the first is new skins for TY.

If you haven’t played this game before or you want to take it on the go, check out and support the Kickstarter campaign. The campaign will run until September 6.
