Skyrim, that one game that Todd Howard refuses to let go of, appears to be getting back into the limelight (again), but this time because of a huge mod. Skyrim Together is a mod for the original version of TESV Skyrim that allows players of Bethesda’s hit action-RPG to connect to each other online and play the game cooperatively. Skyrim Together has been in development for many years and people (myself included) have been eagerly awaiting any and all news regarding when they can potentially play the mod. We do have to thank the Patreon backers who basically funded this mod as it surely would have cost a lot in terms of time and money. Luckily, for those Patreon backers, the game mod will be entering a temporary closed-beta, meaning that (should you please) you will be able to try out Skyrim in co-op mode.
If you did not back the mod, fear not, the mod will enter an open-beta after the close-beta, the latter of which is planned to only be for a brief period. There still is no release date for the mod or even the beta, but the fact that the team behind the mod are willing to talk about the plans for the beta would indicate that it isn’t very far off.
Soon we’ll be opening the doors for our loyal patreons for a temporary closed beta – Don’t fear, this will shortly available for all. This period will be used to measure traffic, any emergency fixes and stability. The smoother this runs the faster we’ll have it out for you guys.
The beta will have some features disabled including; Shared containers (including NPCs), dropping items (items will not appear), factions and bounties, and object sync. The reason these features are disabled is “due to bugs/potential crashing.” Player count is also currently capped to 8 players per-session, though it may be expanded at a later, pending investigation. Servers are only located in the EU, however, the development team will be looking closely and locations of players to determine where new servers need to be opened.
Now in terms of installing the mod, you will need either the original version of Skyrim or Skyrim Special Edition on PC, however for those using the original release you needn’t worry about whether or not you have the DLCs, just make sure your game is updated. The team does recommend the Special Edition as it has “increased stability with their x64 support.” Finally, you will need the launcher for the mod, but that isn’t released yet. The launcher will also keep you updated with every version of the mod that comes out.
