Cross-Faction Play Is Now Live In Retail World Of Warcraft

Make friends, not war

In a move I thought I would never see, players within the World of Warcraft can now set aside their differences to take on the toughest dungeons together.

It’s almost taken 18 years for players on both sides of the Horde and Alliance conflict to realise that there is something far greater to work towards than bloodshed. Peace, maybe?

Nah. Phat loot. The dungeon and raid game within World of Warcraft has become an absolutely incredible beast in recent expansions, with ramping difficulty options and rotating additional challenges to trip up even the most astute of players. Unifying the core playerbase to take on these magnificent challenges only makes perfect sense.

Initially this functionality serves only to unite players that are connected within the Battle.net or Real ID friend system – so you won’t be hanging out with strange orcs and humans just yet. For many players, there will likely be a reunion of friends who long ago chose to walk a different path when a faction shift felt like a breath of fresh air – and that in itself is a fun thought.

Additionally, Patch 9.2.5 also brings with it some additional content and quality of life updates, including:

  • New Customization Quests – Blood Elf and Dark Iron Dwarves can complete a new questline that rewards a new mount and weapon appearances.
  • New Achievements – Players who have been hard at work unlocking all covenant achievements will now see those achievements completed across all their characters.
  • Quality of Life Changes – Increases to Renown earning and catch-ups, character class tuning, increased Grateful Offerings and more.

Generally a big slew of player-centric changes to help ease the community into the expansion wrap up, and start the preparation for the next phase of content coming in the latest announced expansion, Dragonflight.

For every granular change and update present in patch 9.2.5, be sure to check out the World of Warcraft website.
