WoW Classic’s Hardcore Mode Now Has An Even More Hardcore Option

An even harder core

World of Warcraft Classic players seem to have dominated the Hardcore space, with major raid challenges falling before the mighty sword of these elite hardened veterans.

But some called that it was perhaps too easy, that the threat of permanent death was only a minor annoyance. What they really needed was a trial worthy of their skill. And when that, a new ‘Self-Found Mode‘ now live.

The big draw of something like Self-Found mode is that anyone who manages to conquer the challenge did so without any gear advantage from others (or themselves).

No trading means no grabbing gear from mates, no enchanting to make your gear stronger – no friendly leg up to be found. And for those that have the in game gold, the auction house is also off limits – so if your boots are starting to stink up the joint with their low-level’edness, too bad. You’ll need to venture out for a quest that offers booties or pray for a random drop.

This is the next phase of the Hardcore ruleset, and obviously it is offered as an opt-in experience at this time. By that same metric, people who hit a wall with it all can even opt out to admit their cowardice if they so wish.

It’s a fun twist to behold, but it does leave me wondering what could come next. Perhaps a “True Solo” option that restricts players from even grouping up? Restricts friendly buffs from other players? Maybe a blindfold can be mailed out to elite players to complete “Hardcore Blind”.

Whatever the future, you can bet I will be right here enjoying this mode in the way that most appeals to me – YouTube videos of tragic player deaths.

An old guard gamer who suffers from being generally opinionated, it comes as no surprise that he is both brutally loyal and yet, fiercely whimsical about all things electronic. On occasion will make a youtube video that actually gets views.
