The Overwatch workshop is a place of wondrous delights – and the odd awful thing that should never have existed to begin with.
But when the truly incredible minds of the Overwatch community start cooking, you can end up with some mind-blowingly amazing outcomes – such as this full realised WoW-styled raid encounter:
Mythic Boss Fight: ZOOSM
— Seita (@Seita_ow) September 3, 2023
- World of Warcraft style PvE Boss fight
- 15+ Different mechanics to handle
- 4 players, 3 Difficulties
- Easiest difficulty can be beaten with 3 players
- In-game high score for the fastest Mythic clear

Taking place in a mercifully basic grey box, the encounter will see you contend with all manner of familiar and fiendish obstacles – all whilst contending with a giant Reinhardt bot that has his own mechanics to threaten you. The video example showcases just how malefic the field of screams can become – a particular favourite being the classic ‘ROCKS ARE FALLING’ trope.
The crazy thing is how the custom game mode has even been tuned with a sliding scale of difficulty, to mirror the expectations of World of Warcraft players:
World of Warcraft style boss fight with 15+ different mechanics, this workshop mode is designed for 4 players, there are 3 difficulties: Normal, Heroic and Mythic. Your group needs to have 1 tank, 1 support and 1-2 dps players to start the game mode, normal difficulty can be beaten by 3 players.
There are even phases to the fight to ramp the difficulty as you make progress on giant Reinhardt!
During phase one:
- You will have periodic spawns of B.O.B’s who will shoot at you, and grow larger and more threatening over time
- Hammond balls will roll in to players and spawn a damaging void zone on the floor, disabling your abilities if you touch it
During phase two:
- A floating orb will laster players, stacking damage over time
- A horde of ult’ing Genji’s will spawn, and menacingly walk towards a player swinging their swords
Then, during phase three:
- A Moira beam maze will spawn – navigate it and try not to die!
- Rocks start falling
Oh, and then at the end there is a fourth phase. No new mechanics here; instead you need to contend with every mechanic that has appeared so far. Fun.
The creator has even slipped in power ups for the friendly players to try and give them the edge.
It’s an incredibly ambitious game mode that showcases the true power of the Overwatch 2 workshop. Considering we have already seen one community-created game mode sneak its way in to a season of content, I’d be delighted to see some form of this fiendish challenge presented to the general gaming populace.
If you feel you are up to the challenge, gather your party and seek out the workshop submission code ‘ZOOSM’.
Best of luck!
