For A Brief, Glorious Moment Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Starred Spider-Cube

Still not the weirdest character in the Spider-verse

A few days ago, people started reported a fairly innocuous bug that could occur in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, where the spandex-suited webslinger would end up being replaced with a gloriously basic piece of mundane geometry – a standard cube.

The Sensational Spider-Cube would apparently come about when a Spidey outfit didn’t load correctly, with some saying that it occurred after a long game session – where swapping your costume would result in the white box debuting, ready to fight crime. Amusing for most, but downright incredible for others – Spider-Cube was quickly embraced by the community as the hero they didn’t just need, they deserved:

But like so many great legends before him, Spider-Cube webglided too close to the sun – and was struck down by way of a patch deployed by Insomniac Games to solve a couple of issues, with Spider-Cube caught in the crossfire. Someone missed the memo that this should absolutely be categorised as a feature, not a bug.

This developer tool was quickly locked back up in the toolbox, his power deemed too incredible for us regular gamers.

So we wave farewell to our cuboid friend, Peter Planar, as he returns to his particular dimension of the Spider-Verse.

Maybe he had to hurry back and defeat Doctor Blocktopus?
