Earlier this week, retailer JB Hi-Fi started informing customers with console pre-orders about when to expect their consoles. However, one major sticking point was the company’s refusal to allow customers to pay their pre-orders off using gift cards. It was a pretty average move, and one that drew the ire of many of those with pre-orders. Aussie outlet Bytesidespoke to popular review website Choice, who said that JB was at risk of breaching its consumer law obligations.
The backlash seems to have made an impact, with JB today sending out text messages stating that the company will now accept gift card payments for console pre-orders (although you still need to pay in full with a credit card, debit card or PayPal first). Furthermore, if you’ve already paid off your pre-order prior to this change of mind, JB will allow customers to use gift cards and will issue any refund to the value of the gift cards.
