League Of Legends: Wild Rift Dropped An AI Spawned Anniversary Cinematic And It Is Hilariously Awful

It was quickly banished, but people aren’t letting this one disappear quietly

At a time where gaming news is often depressingly grim, sometimes it can also have a twist: being depressingly grim, but in a HILARIOUS way. Your heart hurts, but so do your sides from laughing – if you catch my drift.

That is the case today, where Tencent in China released a cinematic to celebrate the third anniversary of League of Legends: Wild Rift (the mobile-based ‘lite’ version of League of Legends) and you better believe it is entirely AI generated.

Riding hot off the popularity of the KPop Demon Hunters Netflix film, someone clearly slammed “League of Legends by its KPop Demon Hunters” into a generation engine, then stitched together this abysmal mess of short clips.

A personal favourite is Jinx firing a regular ass handgun like an uzi at some malformed minions:

Of course, anyone with eyes could quickly identify that this just was not it, chief. And so the internet has had a busy 24 hours analysing every excruciating moment in the name of hilarity.

From gloopy character proportions, to uncanny faces and just the entire breadth of odd AI-cisms, the agonising 2 minutes and change is littered with every example for why the end just does not justify the means:

If you can’t make your way through the entire video, I don’t blame you – but do NOT miss this incredible vocal section from the very clearly AI Seraphine:

One of the more amusing parts of this is the sheer revulsion on display, with many openly stating that it must “surely be a fan effort, there is no way something like this would be shared officially.”

But, the truth is: it was shared to the official Weibo. Backlash from the Chinese players lead to the video being pulled from the platform, but the internet does not forget.

So now we have a nice fragrant turd out there. Serving as an amazing example for others convinced that this technology is precisely what the industry needs for quick, accessible marketing materials – and worse – actual content.

I could write a sermon about why this was a bad idea, but a picture is worth a thousand words – and every frame of this atrocity speaks to the tone perfectly.

Did you get a hearty laugh out of this blunder? Does it soothe your aching soul, if only for a moment? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
