Multiple reports have emerged today that PS4 users have had their consoles ‘soft-bricked’ (i.e. not dead as a door nail but still requiring a factory reset) by receiving a mysterious message via PSN.
According to Reddit users, just the act of receiving the message is enough to cause consoles to freeze up, and is being apparently sent with malicious intent to users in games like Rainbow Six: Siege. The subreddit suggests some solutions, but your safest bet is to set your messages to private, such that only friends can message you. That is of course if your friends aren’t the type to send you the soft-bricking bug for kicks, at which point you should probably disable messages completely.
Stay safe out there, folks.
