Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Gets A Free Update That Allows For Chaotic Custom Item Races

Your friendships are in danger

Nintendo has announced that the latest Mario Kart 8 Deluxe update adds a Custom Item feature that allows players to select what items appear during races.

Coming alongside the Booster Course Wave 3, the new Custom Item feature will give the player the option to select which specific items can be collected and used during offline races and certain online modes. As shown in a Tweet from Nintendo of Europe, players can choose to leave all items on, remove items entirely, randomise the drop, or select items manually. Additionally, players can allocate different items to each team in Team Races and Battles, giving one team an overwhelming advantage if you’re feeling fruity.

Terrifyingly, this means that you can schedule a friendship-ruining Blue Shell-only race on Baby Park if you’re a monster or a true test of skill with an itemless race on Rainbow Road.
