Mario Kart Is Leaping Off The Screen And Into LEGO Form

Destroy your friendships with plastic bricks instead of a controller

As part of the Gamescom showcase and festivities, the LEGO booth is showing off the upcoming Mario Kart LEGO playsets – with a generous range of radical racers and accessories.

With enough bits and bobs to make not only your racer, but eventually a track AND winners podium, the range looks brilliant for fans of both LEGO and the soul-destroying joy that is Mario Kart:

Via the LEGO listings, we see a full breakdown of the sets and their characters – including a glimpse of the prices as they appear in other less-sunburnt areas of the world:

  • 72031 Super Mario™: Mario Kart™ – Yoshi Bike – US$14.99 / €14,99 / £12,99
  • 72032 Super Mario™: Mario Kart™ – Standard Kart – US$19.99 / €19,99 / £17,99
  • 72033 Super Mario™: Mario Kart™ – Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo – US$34.99 / €34,99 / £29,99
  • 72034 Super Mario™: Mario Kart™ – Baby Mario vs. Baby Luigi – US$29.99 / €29,99 / £24,99
  • 72035 Super Mario™: Mario Kart™ – Toad’s Garage – US$39.99 / €39,99/ / £34,99
  • 72036 Super Mario™: Mario Kart™ – Baby Peach & Grand Prix Set – US$79.99 / £69,99 / €79,99

The sets also include the unique code tiles that contribute to the playability of the Mario themed sets, allowing app users to play unique sound and visual cues from the Mario Kart gaming experience. There is also a new projectile option in the form of red and blue Koopa shells, that can be shot out of the standard LEGO launcher piece.

In an interesting twist, the one Mario Kart villain seemingly missing is a big one – that beautiful blue bastard, the Blue Spiked Shell. I am sure it will be sold separately, at a later date, in the ‘Friendship Destruction Playset’.

These cracking LEGO sets will be making their way to stores on January 1, 2025.
