Melbourne International Games Week Steam Festival Is Back Again This Year

Victorian devs getting a global spotlight

Melbourne International Games Week has announced that the MIGW Steam Festival will return this year between September 29 at 3am AEST and October 3 at 4am AEDT.

The MIGW Steam Festival is a free event that will feature panels, concerts and game presentations from Melbourne developers such as Samurai Punk, Cactus Jame, Massive Monster and League of Geeks, the teams behind Justice Sucks, Every Hue of You, Cult of the Lamb and Armello respectively. Over 80 Victorian developers will receive a global spotlight through the Steam Festival, with game demos and exclusive discounts on certain products throughout the four days.

This will be the second year for the MIGW Steam Festival, with the inaugural event drawing in over 2.1 million viewers who watched a total of over 146,997 hours of content. Last year’s festival saw 36 games exhibited and 15 playable demos, so this time around looks to be much larger.

Steve Dimopoulos, the Minister for Creative Industries, thinks that this year’s festival will eclipse the last, saying that “We’re backing the return of Steam festival with an even bigger program in 2022, featuring more than 80 of our talented local developers and their games and supporting the businesses that make them.”

Did you take part in last year’s Steam Festival? Will you be tuning in this year? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
