New Halo Infinite Roadmap Revealed; Splitscreen Co-Op Cancelled

The wait is coming to a close

Halo Infinite has been mired in controversy and vitriol since its release last year. 343 Industries has had a lot of trouble keeping up support with the game, and it was always an uphill battle going in once they announced that the campaign would be launching without any form of cooperative play. The developer has just unveiled their plans for the game’s future via a new roadmap, including the next season, Forge, and replayable missions.

Slated for a November 8 release date, the Winter Update for Halo Infinite will introduce a new 30-tier battle pass, two new maps in Detachment and Argyle, online co-op for the campaign, mission replay for the campaign, and the highly anticipated Forge beta.

On March 7, 2023, the Season 3 update titled ‘Echoes Within’ will launch and feature new maps for Arena and Big Team Battle, the previously leaked M392 Bandit (read: the DMR without a scope), the previously leaked, Shroud Screen which exists as Halo Infinite’s answer to a smoke grenade, and a 100-tier battle pass. There are, of course, other new features being added but these are 343’s big ticket items.

The bad news comes from the dev update video which was released alongside the announcements. Halo Infinite’s highly anticipated splitscreen co-op has been cancelled so that the developer can focus on the live service side of the game, meaning that two out of the three original Halo titles from 343 Industries have notably lacked splitscreen co-op. Splitscreen multiplayer is available in Infinite, but not co-op, and Halo 5: Guardians did not have splitscreen in any capacity.
