I was sitting calmly at home working when a YouTube notification showed up and turned everything on its head. Without even the fanfare of a Direct, Nintendo has announced a new Nintendo Switch model, the OLED model, in a surprise trailer.
The new model boasts a much thinner bezel with a 7-inch OLED screen over the 6.2-inch screen of the original Switch. The infamous kickstand has also been improved and it is now the width of the main Switch body and is adjustable for different angles. It potentially can be set up at any angle. The audio of the system has also been enhanced and the system will include 64GB of internal storage. This model still outputs in 1080p when docked like the old system but with an OLED screen.
The dock has also had a makeover, with smoother curves to the top and a wired LAN port slot. The dock also has a Nintendo Switch icon that can glow.
The system will have a RRP of $349.99 USD ($539.95 AUD) and there will be a white edition and a blue/red neon edition. The Nintendo Switch OLED Model will be available on October 8, 2021.
