Nintendo released its fiscal report for the period of April 2019 till the end of March this year and I’ve gotta say the numbers are very impressive. Some key takeaways are that the Nintendo Switch now has sold 55.77 million units over its lifetime, including 3.29 million last quarter. The Switch has now outsold the lifetime sales of the Gamecube, N64 and Wii U, is now approaching the lifetime sales of the NES (61.91) and is over halfway to that of the Wii (101.63). Hardware sales are up 24%, with software almost double over last year at approximately 42%. Pokemon Sword and Shield have now sold 17.37 million copies since releasing on November 15, overtaking all bar Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Pokemon Gold and Silver and Pokemon Red and Blue version.
This report is also the first time we get to see sales figures for Animal Crossing: New Horizons worldwide for both physical and digital sales. As many expected New Horizons had an incredible launch, with 11.77 million copies sold in the first 11 days. The game now sits at 13.41 million copies after 6 weeks, with many places, including here in Australia, suffering from supply shortages. A comparison of these sales numbers with those of past titles are simply staggering.
