Nintendo recently announced their quarterly financial report, and it wasn’t pretty. However, there was some good news in there as well! Along with more bad news.
Tucked away in the report is a particularly interesting piece of information in its Outlook section:
“For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed ‘NX’ with a brand-new concept…NX will be launched in March 2017 globally.”
This comes after patents filed in December hinted at what exactly the NX will be, controller-wise. The plot thickens, however! During a Wall Street Journal phone interview following the report, acting Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed that the NX would not be shown at this year’s E3. However, the upcoming Wii U literation of The Legend of Zelda will. This is where the bad news comes in. In the same interview Kimishima-san confirmed that the Wii U’s Zelda game has been delayed (again) to 2017, and that the game will launch on both the Wii U and the NX. But, for those disheartened, remember what Shigeru Miyamoto said when Ocarina of Time was in the same boat: “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”
