Nintendo’s Next-Gen Console Is Reportedly An Evolution On The Switch That’s Targeting A Late 2024 Release

It’s time to Switch things up

According to a new report by Video Game Chronicle, Nintendo is allegedly aiming to release a next-generation console during the second half of 2024.

It looks like Nintendo is finally looking to produce a successor to the Switch, which released back in 2017. According to VGC’s multiple sources, Nintendo is “likely to release new hardware during the second half of 2024,” with an emphasis put on avoiding the hardware shortages that plagued the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

While details are very hush hush, the report goes on to insinuate that this new console will follow in the Switch’s footsteps by having portable capabilities. Two VGC sources went as far as to say that the console will feature an LCD screen, opposed to the OLED screen found on the Switch OLED, in order manage hardware costs. Much like the current Switch, this next-gen console is rumoured to “accept physical games via a cartridge slot,” which makes sense for a Nintendo console.

Interestingly, the report suggests that development kits are already out in the wild. VGC sources claim that dev kits are currently with “key partner studios,” which would line up with the rumoured projections. Dev kits of unannounced consoles are often sent to certain development studios in order work on games to begin prior to the public reveal of the console itself.

What do you make of this report? What would you like from a next-gen Nintendo console? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.

Huge shoutouts to VGC.
