Outbreak: Shades Of Horror Is An Homage To Resident Evil: Outbreak; Kickstarter Now Live

Squad up for an Outbreak

Drop Dead Studios has announced that the Kickstarter for the newest entry in its Outbreak series – Outbreak: Shades of Horror – is now live, with the studio hoping for a goal of A$ 91,737 (US$62,500) to bring its project to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and…Google Stadia.

The studio says that Outbreak: Shades of Horror is a “love letter to the thought-provoking, nerve-shattering titles of the golden age of survival horror in the late 1990s and early 2000s.” While Drop Dead Studios co-founder Evan Wolbach says that “Alongside our amazing community, we’re going to fully fund a next-generation spiritual successor to great survival horror experiences like Resident Evil: Outbreak.”

The first-person co-op-focused title will see players choose from a selection of characters, all with their own abilities and traits, as they attempt to escape from Cypress Ridge during the start of the zombie apocalypse. Players will be joined by up to three friends online or splitscreen local co-op and they must work together to survive. If a player does fall victim to the infection they will return to the game as a zombie and can hunt down their friends, and each scenario will feature branching paths and multiple endings.

The current release window is November 2025, and a copy of the game via Kickstarter will set you back a minimum A$40/US$27 (with other perks included).

Shades of Horror is the eighth game in the Outbreak series, with the first title released in 2017. Those who want a taste of what Outbreak : Shades of Horror can download the game’s playable teaser on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Stadia.
