Overwatch 2’s Upcoming PvPvE Hybrid Event Is Starwatch, And It’s Bonkers

NPC friends, laser turrets – it’s got it all!

Overwatch 2 is having some fun with the amount of experimentation found in it’s limited time modes. Ranging from godly deathmatches and love-fueled arrowfests, we are now on the cusp of the latest weird and whacky experience to grace our arcade playlist – with the impending release of the Starwatch event.

Starwatch will deliver an all-new game mode, known as Galactic Rescue. Incorporating a 4v4 team format, there will be 4 capture points across a gorgeous space-borne map – with hazards and AI to contend with. One team will fill the scrappy shoes of the Watchers rebellion, working to rescue a droid that could release the location of their secret base – the other team will be the oppressive Infinite Empire – who wish for nothing more than to squash this petty rebellion and continue their grand conquest of the stars.

The rebel team is tasked with assaulting the map and making their way through the capture points – aided by an NPC Doomfist that fills the role of their charismatic leader Bonebreaker, tipping the scales into an almost 5v4 situation for the enemy team.

However the Empire has their own advantages, with laser turrets guarding their points to provide additional firepower. The map itself also has hazards strewn throughout it in the form of gravity barrels that will explode into a Zarya ult if blown up – and a final point that will cause the facilities gravity to fail and prompt some crazy low-grav combat. Like PvE modes in the past, there is also the return of the down-but-not-out mechanic that will allow team mates to battle-res their allies.

To coincide with the epic event, a full-motion comic will be released to flesh out the amazing lore of this brilliant side-story – giving players a chance to meet all the heroes and villains of this alternate universe. And of course there will goodies to earn by playing, with an epic Hammond skin, weapon charm and more.
