Payday 2: The Big Score DLC Announced

Payday 2: Crimewave Edition finally gets its long-awaited update. However, not everything is included for free

Earlier today publishers 505 Games and Starbreeze AB announced that the current-gen console version of their highly-popular Payday 2 game would be receiving some new free and paid DLC, finally. The Payday 2: Crimewave Edition DLC titled The Big Score will be compatible with the PS4 initially, with an Xbox One release coming at a later date. The Big Score which is available now on the US PSN and September 9th on the Europe PSN (Australia included) will feature as much as 20 new pieces of content for free.

While the news of a confirmed date for new content is welcoming, console players may have the right to feel a little aggrieved with 505 and Starbreeze over what is and isn’t included in the free update. It has been well-documented that console players have gone without updates for over 400 days. Despite this they will still have to purchase the majority of the good DLC, such as the Alesso Heist and The Point Break Heists. The free update will include the First World Bank Heist, but there is no mention of any other free heists, which is not to say there won’t be more free heists, but if there are more included they aren’t listed. Here is the full list of paid DLC available with US pricing:

  • The Pointbreak Heists – $6.99
  • The Alesso Heist – $6.99
  • The Golden Grin Casino Heist – $6.99
  • The Sokol Character Pack – $4.99
  • The Yakuza Character Pack – $4.99
  • Butcher’s AK/CAR Mod Pack – $4.99
  • Butcher’s BBQ Pack – $4.99
  • Butcher’s Western Pack – $4.99
  • The Gage Ninja Pack – $4.99
  • Gage Chivalry Pack – $4.99

“We are thankful to the passionate PAYDAY 2 community for their patience for this update, and we hope the massive amount of both free and premium content will satiate their nefarious dreams of being the best heisters on PS4 and Xbox One,” said Andreas Häll-Penninger, producer for PAYDAY 2. “With a mix of new tense, action-packed heists, music and mayhem, The Big Score gives players hours of criminal gaming pleasure in a flexible offering that won’t break their personal bank.”

One positive initiative to come from this is that if you don’t own The Big Score DLC but one of your mates does, you can still play that heist.

Players who do not own the Crimewave Edition can buy The Big Score bundled with the Crimewave Edition for a slightly reduced price. Please check your region’s PSN store for correct pricing.  It was also revealed that The Big Score will be getting a full retail release, which will release towards the end of the year.
