For players that hunger for crime, their excitement for Payday 3 was somewhat dented by the discovery that the title was intending to ship with the contentious anti-cheat/DRM solution Denuvo.
Denuvo has long been the target of ire for many, because the way it protects a game involves some background processes that seemingly always result in a dip in game performance – causing stutters and slowness while the game regularly checks in with itself to make sure it is legit. It’s a hilarious outcome where people who have managed to pirate a game (yes, Denuvo can be bypassed) will typically end up with a smoother gameplay experience.
People noticed the inclusion was listed on the Steam store for Payday 3, eliciting a groan of discomfort from all:
However, as we near release the developers took to social media to drop a pretty short and sweet message – Denuvo is no longer in the game.

We want to inform you that Denuvo is no longer in PAYDAY 3.
We look forward to seeing you in New York City!
Happy heisting! 👊😎 pic.twitter.com/729ezTJm6K
As the kids would say, this is a massive W from the folks behind Payday 3. The mention of their own verification system (named Starbreeze Nebula) is still intact, and likely will be used as an authenticated login to play the game – nothing out of the ordinary for modern titles.
But with zero Denuvo concerns for players, they can now focus on in-game criminal activity – rather than IRL criminal activity prevention causing gross framerates and the like.
Are you excited for Payday 3’s impending release? Have your own Denuvo horror story? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
