Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Next Expansion Is Called Space-Time Smackdown, Launches On January 30

Come on and slam, and welcome to the Space-Time Jam

After weeks of speculation and hordes of collectors saving up every Hourglass they possibly could in anticipation, The Pokémon Company has finally revealed the next major booster pack expansion for the already-hugely-popular Pokémon TCG Pocket app.

Dubbed Space-Time Smackdown, this new expansion is focused on Pokémon from the Sinnoh region (introduced with Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl), headline by the legendary ‘mons from that same era of Pokémon in Dialga and Palkia—seen below in powerful Ex card form:

The new set will, naturally, feature brand-new Pokémon ex cards, Trainer cards, and more of those stunning immersive cards to hope for in every pack we crack. There’ll be more than 140 new cards in total spread across the two new Dialga and Palkia-themed boosters, making this a much bigger expansion than the Mew-themed Mythical Island that dropped in December.

You can see a tease of some of the new cards in the promo video below, including the Gen 4 starters (literally who cares about anything other than Piplup, though?), a Pachirisu Ex with a new “Pokémon Tool attached” mechanic, Leafeon, Honchkrow, Cresselia, Gible, and a very c*nty Cynthia Trainer card.

Aside from revealing the theme and a tease at what’s inside, this announcement also confirms a release date for the Pokémon TCG Pocket app’s next expansion, which is January 30 (time zones permitting).

Curiously one day ahead of this, though, will be the launch of the long-awaited Trading feature, details of which we reported on last week. Trading will commence on January 29 (again, time zones permitting) and will allow players to swap between each other a selection of cards from the Genetic Apex and Mythical Island booster packs.

Are you excited for this upcoming Pokémon TCG Pocket app expansion? Is there a Sinnoh region Pokémon you’re hoping to see in the mix? Let us know in the comments below or on social media.
