Playdate, the crank-wielding handheld console from Panic (publisher of Firewatch and Untitled Goose Game), will be available to pre-order as of July 30, 3am AEST the device’s manufacturer has announced.
Priced at US$179 (approx A$243), the Playdate will come with 24 original games, delivered weekly at no additional charge and a charging cable. Full payment is required upfront, however pre-orders can be cancelled anytime for a full refund. Australia is one of the sixteen countries that the Playdate will initially ship to.
With a limit of two units per person, Panic says that “pre-orders will not sell out,” and that the first batch of 20,000 Playdates is expected to ship late in 2021, with additional orders to ship in 2022. Furthermore, the company says that production in 2022 will be based on demand for the device. The Playdate cover will also be available, but the wireless speaker dock will launch at a later date.
