Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch Rating Rides Into Town

Another secret bestowed unto us by the Brazilian government

Hot off the beaten trail that saw the original Red Dead Redemption make it’s way to Nintendo Switch, apparently a rating for the blockbuster sequel has materialised.

Thanks to an entry from the official Brazilian government rating website, details for Red Dead Redemption 2 can be clearly read alongside a list of platforms that includes Uncle Ninty’s diminutive handheld:

Translation of the content description details that the game is rated 18+ due to criminal acts, drugs and violence.

The most egregious criminal act being the attempt to run such a high fidelity game on Switch hardware – with many creative folk already showcasing the expected gameplay experience by way of magnificent potato-ware:

It comes alongside an interesting rumour that has recently started to manifest online, that perhaps bigger studios have access to a Nintendo development kit for a Switch console sequel and are comfortable with porting a heftier title if it may have room to grow in future.

Such a note was initially touched on in reflection of the Switch console version of Mortal Kombat 1, where some people ruminated that such an effort to get the game running is questionable in the first place – unless some kind of ‘Switch 2’ may be closer than we expect, with access to backwards compatibility to let these kinds of games stretch their legs.

Clearly just a theory in the short term, but may well be (horse) food for thought. By any metric, seeing RDR2 try and deliver it’s cinematic western adventure by way of the existing Nintendo Switch is going to make for some glorious YouTube content, so best believe I will be pulling up a log to watch.
