Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa has confirmed that there will be no merchant character in the upcoming ninth entry in the survival horror series.
Speaking with yours truly last week, Kumazawa replied, “In this game, there’s no merchant character,” when I asked him if Requiem would feature an in-game merchant.
I guess the answer makes sense given Capcom has been saying that Requiem will lean more into survival horror, however it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility considering that The Duke from Resident Evil Village acted as the game’s merchant. Plus, it would be neat if a legacy character, like Robert Kendo, survived the events of Resident Evil 2 (the remake certainly leaves his fate open) and remained in the city as a merchant-type character in Requiem. But I can see how a merchant would remove some of the tension that survival horrors are known for.
Fans speculated on Reddit that one particular character who had been shown off could have been the game’s merchant. However, we can now put that theory to bed.
Would you have liked to see a merchant in Resident Evil Requiem, or are you happy with Capcom’s decision to leave them out? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
