Rumour: Wall Street Journal Report Says New Nintendo Switch Models Coming This Year

New Nintendo Switch XL

Late last year, rumours started to circulate about the possibility of Nintendo releasing a revised version of their mega-successful Nintendo Switch console, thanks to a report released by the Wall Street Journal. Unfortunately that’s as far as the rumours went, with Nintendo stating earlier this year that no such plans are underway.

Fast forward to today, and the Wall Street Journal has again made claims of updated hardware inbound. Citing sources ‘familiar with Nintendo’s plans’, the Journal now believe that not one but two new Nintendo Switch models are coming in 2019. One would be a souped-up version of the current hardware, a mid-gen refresh not unlike the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro (though still not quite as powerful as those), while the other would be a slightly downgraded ‘budget’ model designed to convince 3DS diehards to make the transition.

The report pegs an announcement at this year’s E3 in Los Angeles, so if there is any truth to these rumours we’re sure to find out more then.
