Sci-Fi Horror Directive 8020 Gets A May Release Date

Take a trip to Tau Ceti f this May

Supermassive Games has announced that its long-awaited sci-fi horror game Directive 8020 will release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 13 (May 12 global).

Now that the new release date is locked in, pre-orders are open on consoles, with the price set at $69.95. All pre-orders will come with a free upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, and for those who prefer physical media, a physical release will also be available.

Directive 8020 is part of the studio’s The Dark Pictures series and sees the crew of the colony ship Cassiopeia crash land on the planet Tau Ceti f, with pilot Brianna Young tasked with leading humanity’s push for survival. But there’s one big obstacle crawling around the ship – an alien lifeform with the ability to imitate its prey, making trust among the crew hard to come by.

While Directive 8020 will have the cinematic choice-based gameplay that Supermassive is known for, it introduces a new feature called Turning Point, which allows players to rewind and revisit key decisions. Like other Dark Pictures games, Directive 8020 can be played solo or with friends (up to five) in couch co-op, with online multiplayer coming in a later update.

The game was originally set to launch on October 2, 2025, before being delayed after Supermassive was hit with layoffs.
