Space Marine II Casually Drops That It Has A 3-Player Co-op Campaign

Purging is better with friends

The far future is often depicted as being very grim dark – A hopeless place. It has a lot in common with our present – given the miserable lack of co-operative campaign options in the AAA gaming sphere.

But Space Marine II is correcting that, with a balls-out new gameplay trailer that drops the news that you can take your fight to the Tyranids with two of your closest space marine buddies:

We are once more spoiled with a look at the unbelievable scale of war within the game, with skittering creatures sweeping forward like a monstrous tide. In my initial Space Marine 2 gameplay reaction, I mentioned that some of the horde moments looked like clever trickery – but this trailer actually demonstrates that there are times when that wave of bugs is very real, with bullets scything through their numbers and broken bodies spilling out.

And then! The big reveal of standing shoulder to shoulder with your buddies! The trailer ends with some incredibly simple statements – Co-op campaign. Up to three players.

My mind is blown. I was already ferociously excited for the game – but the idea of sharing the ridiculous power fantasy that comes from being a walking tank with some close, similarly Warhammer-obsessed mates is just fantastic. The entire tabletop hobby is deeply marbled with themes of community and mate-ship, so it only makes sense that you should introduce such a thing to the highest production interactive media to grace the space.

Now to agonise over who my battle brothers shall be. Maybe I could hold auditions.
