Super Mario 64 Speedrunner Livestreaming His 24 Hour Run Up The Endless Stairs

Twitch streamer Nicroveda, who speedruns Super Mario 64 as well as other Mario titles Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Bros. has today decided to perform a 24 hour stream on his channel dedicated to running up the endless staircase in Super Mario 64.

For those of you who haven’t played Super Mario 64 (you really should by the way), the endless staircase is an obstacle you encounter towards the end of the game, with the staircase being all that is keeping Mario from taking on Bowser for the third and final time.

The staircase remains endless until Mario obtains 70 Power Stars, so any attempt to run up the staircase without the required stars causes Mario to instead get a neverending cardio workout. While the stairs can indeed be skipped by a trick coined in the SM64 community as a “Backwards Long Jump”, Nicroveda has instead promised to not attempt the trick, instead opting to run up the stairs without the assistance of speedrunning techniques (how admirable).

Even though the Canadian streamer is performing this 24 hour stunt as a silly joke, I can’t help but enjoy it. Both his chat and himself are fully behind the 24 hour journey up the stairs, and although the top arguably won’t ever be reached, we can still hold out a sliver of hope.

As of the time of posting, Nicroveda still has over 9 hours remaining. If you want to join in on his bizarre journey, feel free to watch down below:
