PlayStation has revealed the design for the PlayStation VR2 headset, alongside the final design of the VR2 Sense Controllers.
Unveiled through a PlayStation Blog post, the physical design for the PS VR2 headset matches the aesthetic of the PS5, sporting the dual-tone white and black colour scheme and being adorned with those tiny little PlayStation symbols that can be found on the console, DualSense controller and other accessories.
As stated in the blog post, the design was made with ergonomics and comfort in mind, with adjustable scope and headband and a 3.5mm jack located in the same spot as the original headset making sure that this unit feels comfortable and familiar. Despite having additional features, such as rumble motors and the aforementioned adjustment scope, the headset itself is actually lighter than the initial VR headset, so long sessions will be more viable and less straining.
The PSVR2 Sense Controllers are also shown off within the blog post, now sporting the same dual-tone colour scheme. Similarly to the Sense Controllers, the headset itself is designed to be quite spherical, symbolising the 360-degree view that players will have while using it.
Yujin Morisawa, the Senior Art Director for SIE and lead designer on the PSVR 2 headset, had this to say:
“When I started to work on the design for the PlayStation VR2 headset, one of the areas I wanted to focus on first was the idea of creating a vent in the headset to let air out, similar to the vents on the PS5 console that allows airflow. Our engineers came up with this idea as a good way to allow ventilation and avoid having the lens fog up while players are immersed in their VR games. I worked on many design concepts to achieve this, and in the final design, you can see there is a little space in between the top and front surface of the scope that contains the integrated ventilation. I am really proud of how this turned out and the positive feedback I have gotten so far. I hope our PlayStation fans will also agree, and I can’t wait for them to try it out.”
