The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Gameplay Shows Off Weapon Fusion And Vehicle Creation

Fusion Haaaaayrule!

Nintendo has published a gameplay demonstration for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom this morning, giving us a great look at the game while detailing several of its new features.

Debuting this morning at the frankly awful time of 1am AEDT, the 13-minute gameplay trailer is narrated by the game’s producer, Eiji Aonuma. Giving us our best look at the highly anticipated sequel yet, the trailer kicks off with Link using his new Recall ability on a fallen rock, rewinding time and allowing him to hop on top and ride it to a floating Sky Island looming above Hyrule.

Cutting to a different Sky Island, we next see Aonuma exploring the aerial land mass before collecting a branch from the ground to use as a weapon against one of the game’s new enemies, a Construct. As demonstrated in this fight, the game still has weapon durability, with the branch breaking after a few hits, but a fun new ability offsets it. The Fuse ability lets players combine items to make makeshift weapons, like combining a branch and a boulder to make a rudimentary hammer. This will allow for increased durability, introduce new weapon abilities, and, well, it just looks hilarious and fun.

The Ultrahand ability is similar to Fuse, but for vehicles. As demonstrated in the trailer, Aonuma attaches multiple logs and a fan together to create a DIY boat, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts style. Previous trailers have shown off all kinds of whacky vehicles, so it’ll be entertaining to see what the player community does with this feature.

The last new ability shown off was Ascend. This allows Link to pass through the ceiling of a building and pop out onto the roof or the floor above. It’s even possible to scale mountains by using the Ascend ability while in a cave. Very handy.
