The Nintendo Switch OLED Model Will Still Include The Drift-Prone Joy-Cons

Not the news we wanted to hear

After months upon months of speculation about a potential Switch Pro system, Nintendo lifted the lid on a new system, but it wasn’t exactly what we were all expecting. The Switch OLED Model is a new iteration of the popular handheld/home console that introduces a bigger, OLED display while updating the internal system storage and adding an ethernet port to the dock. It’s a divisive console to be sure, with many hoping that we would’ve seen a more substantial step forward and others praising the changes that we are getting.

One thing that doesn’t split opinions is the widespread drift issue that current Switch Joy-Cons suffer from, causing frustration and anger from the entire player base. With a new console launching, it would be fair to assume that this would be rectified, but that doesn’t look to be the case.

Gamespot reached out to Nintendo to see whether this problem would be seen to with the OLED model and the company’s reply was far from what we would’ve hoped.

The Joy-Con controller configuration and functionality did not change with Nintendo Switch system (OLED model). The configuration and functionality is the same as that of the Joy-Con controllers for the Nintendo Switch system.

Essentially, this means that the OLED model will be using the same Joy-Cons and will suffer from the same drift issues plaguing the current models. To say that this is disappointing is a huge understatement and I’m sure that potential adopters of this system will be thinking twice upon hearing about this.

Does this disappoint you? Will you be purchasing a Switch OLED model. Let us know.
