Back in February Italian developers One-O-One Games released the first-person narrative adventure The Suicide of Rachel Foster on PC, and tonight the game’s publisher, German-based Daedalic Entertainment, has announced that the game will be launching on the PS4 and Xbox One on August 26.
The Suicide of Rachel Foster is similar to other narrative-driven games such as Firewatch or Draugen, and sees lead protagonist Nicole return to her family-owned hotel, the Timberline, in the Montana wilderness to authorise its sales after her father passes away. However, the Timberline is not a place of happy memories for Nicole, who along with her mother fled the hotel after it was discovered that Nicole’s father was having an affair with a young teenager named Rachel Foster. Making matters worse is that Rachel was pregnant, and not long after Nicole and her mother fled, Rachel committed suicide. Subsequently, a storm forces Nicole to remain at the Timberline longer than she’d like with nothing more than the voice of FEMA agent on the other end of the phone to keep her company. and as a result she starts to uncover the truth about her past, and the truth about Rachel Foster’s death.
I reviewed the game back in February, stating that “The Suicide of Rachel Foster is a game that had me hooked until the very end. Its narrative may centre around sensitive themes, but the quality in which its written and delivered elicits a genuine emotional response. It’s simply a must-play for fans of narrative-driven games.”

Despite a childhood playing survival horrors, point and clicks and beat ’em ups, these days Zach tries to convince people that Homefront: The Revolution is a good game while pining for a sequel to The Order: 1886 and a live-action Treasure Planet film.
