The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s Newest Trailer Includes Donkey Kong Voiced By Seth Rogan

He’s bigger, faster, and more blazed too

Illumination has released a new 30-second trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie that aired during the Eagles vs 49ers NFC Championship game.

While a brief TV spot might not sound like anything newsworthy, the trailer title Smash gave us two new titbits that are well worth highlighting. With Mario facing off against Donkey Kong in an arena, the moustachioed plumber hits a Mystery Block and transforms into the cute Cat Mario. First debuting in Super Mario 3D World, the Cat Suit allows Mario to climb walls and use a claw attack against his enemies, which looks to be DK in the trailer.

The far more important aspect of this trailer is the reveal of Donkey Kong’s voice, as portrayed by Seth Rogan. Berating poor old Cat Mario, Seth Rogan’s Donkey Kong sounds…exactly like Seth Rogan. Yes, as expected, DK now sounds like he’s eating so many bananas because he’s got the munchies. I couldn’t be more entertained by this casting, but I’m sure it’ll be divisive.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will hit theatres on April 7.
