The Transformers Make Their Debut In Overwatch 2 With A Rad Trailer

This newest collaboration is ‘More Than Meets The Eye’

Familiar music and familiar faces abound in the animated reveal trailer for the upcoming Overwatch 2 X Transformers collaboration.

Posted on social media, the trailer gives us a proper look at exactly who is suiting up to play the roles of famous transforming robots – with the neat twist being that the Autobots actually outnumber the Decepticon forces for a change:

For all those theory crafting who would be filling the metal shoes of which robot, the vast majority of guesses seemed to be right on the money, particularly for those that immediately guessed that Rammatra and Reinhardt would oppose each other as Megatron and Optimus Prime.

The full cast of guest skins and their respective characters are:

  • Optimus Prime – Reinhardt
  • Megatron – Rammatra
  • Arcee – Illari
  • Bumblebee – Bastion

A positively cool swerve was seeing newcomer support Illari getting a skin for Arcee – giving some much needed love to one of the best stars of the 1986 Transformers movie:

Though it is not without disappointment, at least from a small fan perspective. The fact that Bastion is turning into BumbleBastion is neat, but you’d imagine that his credentials as “robot with one eye and a gun for an arm” would have shortlisted him to star as the notorious Shockwave, with a similar thought to people clamouring to perhaps get one of the games fliers (ie Pharah or Echo) to perhaps become the duplicitous Starscream.

It’s a collaboration that seems rife for a sequel at a later date, if only to fill out the sides and even the odds. Mauga as Bulkhead maybe? Genji would make a wicked Bludgeon, surely.

For now though, this looks like the art team has been hard at work producing some solid Transformers gold – and the release date is any day now, so be ready for some awesome robots to appear in your game.
