Developer Visual Concepts has teased that the Iron Survivor match type is on the cards for future WWE 2K releases, stating that it’s likely a when, not if, situation.
We recently sat in on a roundtable interview with various developers from Visual Concepts, the team behind the WWE 2K series. During the interview, Derek Donahue, the Lead Combat Designer at Visual Concepts, was asked about the likelihood of the Iron Survivor match coming to the series in the future. Speaking candidly about the team’s ambition to expand the playable modes, Donahue said the following:
“I’d be lying if I said Iron Survivor wasn’t something we talked a lot about. Not just about how much we want to get it in the game but all the challenges it would take to get that in. It reminds me of War Games, which was a huge effort that took us multiple years to do.” Donahue continues, “Iron Survivor has that penalty box at ringside, and I can just imagine all of the ways that you could get into crazy match situations where you would need a bunch of people in the penalty box, all the interactions we would want to do with it. So, I imagine it’s a when, not if, but we’re going to want to do it right when we do it, whenever that is.”
For those unfamiliar, the Iron Survivor match is a five-person stipulation wherein the entrants try to earn the most points in 26 minutes, with a point being awarded for pinfalls, submissions, or forcing a disqualification. The added wrinkle to this match is that anyone pinned, submitted or disqualified must then spend 90 seconds in a penalty box before rejoining the match. The match has been set up as a yearly occurrence, taking place at NXT: Deadline in December, with the most recent matches seeing Oba Femi and Guila come out on top in their respective bouts.
WWE 2K25 will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on March 14.
