Square Enix Announces Six New Dragon Quest Titles, Including Dragon Quest XII

The Flames of Fate are heating up!

Square Enix had their 35th Anniversary of Dragon Quest live stream today, celebrating the long-running franchise as well as announcing a whopping six new Dragon Quest titles.

After flogging some cheeky Japan exclusive DQ-related merch such as watches and shirts, the company got to making their announcements. If you don’t have time to watch the following video we’ve rounded them up just below:

– Dragon Quest Eraser (Keshikeshi): A free-to-play mobile puzzle game about erasing monsters, somehow. Launching in Japan in 2021, internationally later.

– Dragon Quest X Online version 6: The latest update to the existing online game, which continues to be a Japan exclusive.

– Dragon Quest X Offline: An offline, standalone version of Dragon Quest X that’s easy to pick up and play and features a chibi art style. Planned for an early 2022 release in Japan.

– Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake: A remake of Dragon Quest III in the same visual style as Octopath Traveller. Aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release on console, with no set release date.

– Dragon Quest TreasuresA new spin-off starting young versions of Erik and Mia from Dragon Quest XI, that’s all about treasure hunting. Said to be an RPG, but ‘not like a traditional one’. Hoping for a simultaneous worldwide release, but no release window or platforms just yet.

– Dragon Quest XII The Flames of Fate: The big one. Unfortunately, we get nothing more than a title. It looks to have a darker tone, and be based around player choice. It was also announced that the battle system is going to be changed in some way (are we looking at a semi-action game ala Final Fantasy VII Remake?). Another potential simultaneous worldwide release, but no platforms or release window.
