San Diego Comic Con is all wrapped up, and now we settle into the glorious post-party of blurry leaks and ‘TRUST ME DUDE’ rumour-mongering.
One such piece of blurry fun is a video that was clearly captured during the Mortal Kombat 1 story panel – showcasing a section of the narrative where – you guessed it – an unexpected fight breaks out. And the main instigators of this bloodshed appear to be some old faces that have not yet received a more formal introduction to the internet:
Finally !

These no good upstarts are none other than the General Reiko, from Mortal Kombat 4 and the four-legged, horse-scorpion dude Motaro – the OG sub-boss of Mortal Kombat 3. Neither has had a formal reveal, so it would be safe to say that their appearance at SDCC was intended to be a fun little treat for the attendees – but leakers are going to leak.
As far as speculation goes, Reiko being a playable character doesn’t seem too far fetched – he has appeared in a number of games and received some polish to his kit that may translate well to the new era. Motaro however, is a little more complex. Being a boss character, he has never really had a moment to shine – his purpose was to delete kids at the arcade, and devour more of their hard earned pocket change; and his one truly polished playable experience was a nightmarish abomination (they deleted two of his legs due to technical limitations) and so I must surmise that if he was to be included, it would be as a kameo fighter.
With the blurry footage well and truly seeped into the internet now, I am hoping that NetherRealm marketing will perhaps consider releasing the footage normally so we can all bask in the glow of a weirdly orange horse man.
