Polish based developer CD Projekt Red are one of the highest regarded devs in the industry as far as game quality is concerned. Helming the excellent Witcher series, with The Witcher 3 being particularly amazing (we gave it an 8.8), as well as the upcoming, hugely anticiapted Cyberpunk 2077, CDPR are on top of the world.
CD Projekt doesn’t look to be slowing down either, as CEO Adam Kiciński recently told journalists that their plan is to begin work on a new Witcher title “Immediately after the completion of work on Cyberpunk 2077”.
Coming from EUROGAMER.pl, Kiciński explains that the team have a “relatively clear concept that is waiting for further development”, insinuating that they will be able to hit the ground running with the project as soon as Cyberpunk is sorted.
Another tidbit of info given during the meeting was that the game won’t be titled Witcher 4 which implies that we won’t be playing as our favourite white wolf, Geralt of Rivia. This lines up well with what Senior Animator Jamie Bury told us during an interview about the Blood and Wine Expansion when asked if the DLC would be the end of Geralt’s story: “As far as I’m aware, the message that has been put across is that [Blood and Wine] will be the end of Geralt’s adventure”.
Kiciński also goes on to say that all planned games in the future will be set in the Witcher and Cyberpunk worlds, which I can’t see many people being too upset about after the success of the game series as well as the Netflix show.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 17, 2020.
What do you make of this news? Would you be keen on a new Witcher game? Let us know.
