Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR’s New Gameplay Overview Details The Stealth, Parkour And Combat We Can Expect

Blend in, parkour, punch the couch

Ubisoft has dropped a new gameplay deep-dive video for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, set to release on Meta Quest 2, 3 and Pro on November 16.

Nexus is the first VR game to be set in the Assassin’s Creed universe, putting players in the robes of three of the series’ iconic hidden blade-wielding assassins in Connor, Ezio and Kassandra. Until now we’ve seen little snippets of gameplay here and there, but this nine-minute gameplay overview has finally lifted the lid, giving us an extended look at the core experience. Narrated by the game’s Creative Director David Votypka, we see the player exploring Venice, Greece and Boston in open maps that are impressively vertical, with players able to freely scale buildings and parkour across rooftops as you would in the core games in the series.

After getting a look at the climbing, running, jumping and other exhausting activities that will have me huffing and puffing, we see the sneakier side of Nexus. Stealth, much like in the mainline games, involves blending in with crowds, distracting guards by throwing rocks and bottles and perching above encampments to stay hidden. Oh, and do you want to whistle to bring a guard closer? You’ll be able to by making a ring with your fingers and holding it up to your mouth. I can’t do that in real life, so I’m pumped.

Lastly, we see some action. The hidden blade works exactly as you would expect, with the cloaked killer diving off rooftops to impale foes, while swordplay is a little more involved. Going one-on-one with a guard, you can block oncoming attacks and swing back, as though you were in an actual swordfight, but with far less jeopardy. Bows, crossbows and Connor’s signature tomahawk will also be in your arsenal as ranged weapons, functioning exactly as you would expect.
