Aussie-Made Horror Extraction Title Macabre Gets An Early Access Release Date

Struth that’s soon

Sydney-based developer Weforge Studio has announced that its co-op stealth extraction horror game, Macabre, is coming to PC early access on September 29.

Following a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign last year, Weforge Studio is finally ready to let its uniquely Aussie extraction experience out into the wild. Macabre is a co-op extraction game set in a procedurally generated map called a Rift. Dropped into the middle of this environment inspired by the Australian outback, you and up to three other players are asked to explore the crumbling encampments and research facilities in an effort to gather resources and other valuable loot.

The trick is, there’s a malicious entity that’s hell bent on separating your head from your body as you scrounge around in the brush. The Crawler is a roaming enemy that will stalk you across the map, learning from your movements and choices, which makes it harder to avoid as the game continues. You’ll have plenty of tools at your disposal, but the Crawler is faster, stronger, and (in our case) probably smarter than you, so it’s best to sneak your way across the map as you complete your objectives.

Weforge Studio has confirmed that the game will include a procedural map, a viciously intelligent enemy to contend with, and new maps and monsters that will be added to the game as the early access period continues. A new launch trailer has dropped alongside this announcement, narrated by Banjo, who serves as your in-game guide through the Rift.

You can watch the Macabre launch trailer here:

We had a chance to play Macabre earlier this year, and it showed a huge amount of promise. The Crawler is a terrifying and clever enemy that preys on you at all times, and the inclusion of proximity chat makes its attacks on your co-op friends all the more alarming. The sound design and overall soundscape are also worth a mention, as the outback setting is really brought to life by some top-notch audio work. This is all to say that the WellPlayed crew will be back on board once Macabre hits early access later this month.
