It’s been 32 glorious years of the spiny speedster, and what better way to celebrate than to have a speedrunning competition and raise some money for charity!
Taking place at Fortress Sydney on June 23, Five Star Games is gathering some of Aussies best speedrunners to divide into a set of home team heroes to grasp the bragging rights as winners of “The Sonic State of Origins Plus” clash competition.

The teams are leaning deep into the lore of the local Rugby League fun, by dividing into state teams and donning the colours to suit:
Team KNUCKLES (QLD):
Team SONIC (NSW):
The event will consist of eight Sonic events to accumulate points and decide who will take home the Sonic State of Origins Plus shield:

All parties involved will be donating proceeds to Cure Cancer via their Game On Cancer initiative, an awesome platform for all members of the gaming community to come together and celebrate what makes gaming great while also benefitting all areas of cancer research and detection.
Shane Bailey, Head of Gaming & Streaming at Cure Cancer, says:
“We’re honoured to be partnered with AusSpeedruns as their charity of choice, and to see a new speedrunning competition come to Australia – from the original speedster himself, no less – is simply wonderful.”
The event will be streamed via the AusSpeedruns Twitch channel, so even if you can’t get on down to Fortress Sydney in person (a shame, I heard there will be cake) you can still cheer for your team of choice and maybe sling a few dollars towards an epically good cause.
Tickets now available for purchase through Eventbrite for $10.
